Glasgow Scenery is a free directory of the places that make Glasgow and its surroundings worth walking around — viewpoints, parks, river and hill walks, museums, markets, and the cafes, bars and stays that sit along the routes. There is no paywall and no account: everything is open to read, whether you live in the city or are planning a first visit.

Owned & operated by Scotreach, in Glasgow
Glasgow Scenery (glasgowscenery.com) is owned and operated by Scotreach, a Glasgow-based business improvement company. The directory, the guides and the newsletter are maintained by a small editorial team in the city. Everything runs from Glasgow, and the site is written for people who are actually going to walk these routes.
What is in the directory, and where the data comes from
The directory holds 439 places, grouped into twelve categories such as free hangouts, museums and culture, things to do, sports and outdoors, and food and drink. Listings carry the name, address, website and — where Google publishes them — the star rating and the number of Google reviews. That rating and review data comes from Google Places; it is not written by us, and we do not invent ratings or reviews. Our job is the part Google does not do: grouping the places sensibly, placing them on the right routes, and telling you what is actually worth the trip.
Our guides and tools
Alongside the directory we publish six long-form guides — day trips from Glasgow, park and river walks, viewpoints and architecture, hill walks, eating and drinking around the parks, and a Scottish walking-kit guide — plus a live midge-risk forecast that estimates activity from real-time weather, and a guide to the best views in Glasgow. The guides are written by us, in plain English, and we try to be specific: how to get there, what you actually see, when to go, and the mistakes worth avoiding.
How we make money, and what it does not affect
The site is funded by display advertising and by affiliate links: some outbound links to ticket, tour or booking providers are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. Advertising never changes which places we include or how they are ordered. We do not sell positions in the directory, and a business cannot pay to appear higher than its peers.
Corrections and reader contributions
Places change: cafes close, paths are diverted, opening times move. If something here is wrong or out of date, email directories@scotreach.com and we will correct it. Readers can also share their own account of a visit, which we review by hand before publishing on the relevant page.
A note on the name
Glasgow takes its name from the Gaelic Ghlaschu, long rendered into English as “the Dear Green Place” — a fitting name for a city with more green space per head than almost any other in Europe. That is the idea this site is built around: the city is best seen on foot, from a park bench, a river path or a hilltop.
